Our Story

The white bank barn says, "Carl L. Anthony 1875" across the top in black letters. We haven't discussed changing it. If we did, it would mean that the farm is really, truly ours.

Yes, we've made some significant physical changes to the property since 2009. Some by choice, some by necessity, and some we made with heavy hearts. But to change the name on the barn... that's real.

In a nutshell, our property and family history looks something like this:

  • Jerry Shearer, the original quarter mile parcel owner, built the barn in 1875. The farm house was then built in 1886.

  • When Mr. Shearer's wife passed around 1903-1905, he sold his stead to William and Rosalinda Zimmerman.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman's daughter, Florence, married Roy G. Anthony in 1921. Roy took over the farm in 1940.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Anthony's son, Carl Lee Roy Anthony, took over the farm in 1965 with his wife Louise.

  • Sandy Creek Ventures, LLC (Mr. Anthony's son, Richard, and grandson, Timothy) purchased the farm in 2009.

  • Timothy Anthony and his wife, Lisa, bought out Richard Anthony in 2015.

  • With Carl's blessing, Tim's family moved into the farm house in 2016.

Even with the changes, we take pride in "Grandma and Grandpa's" farm. Ultimately, we love this farm as passionately as those before us and are eager to raise our children, the sixth generation, with that same heart for agriculture. We're not here just to survive, but to thrive. And when the time is right, we will change the name on the barn.
